Education Secretary Visits Telford Park School

Amethyst Academies Trust is proud to share that Telford Park School welcomed the Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP, Secretary of State for Education, on Thursday 12 March 2026. The visit formed part of a wide-ranging education day across Telford, organised by local MP Shaun Davies to highlight the strength of education in the town and discuss how national policy can better support pupils, families and staff.

Our students at the heart of it

The centrepiece of the visit was a conversation between the Secretary of State and a group of Telford Park School students. They rose to the occasion. Speaking with honesty, confidence and real ambition, they discussed pressing issues including a potential social media ban for under-16s, the voting age of 16, and their own career aspirations. They also shared what it means to grow up and study in Telford – the opportunities they see ahead of them and the challenges they face.

Headteacher Aimee Huntington said: “It was a privilege to welcome the Secretary of State for Education to Telford Park School. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the hard work, ambition and dedication of our students and staff. We are extremely proud of the progress the school is making – our improvement journey is well underway, driven by high expectations, strong values and a relentless focus on ensuring every young person here can achieve, belong and thrive.”

CEO Nicola Licata said: “We were privileged to host the Secretary of State for Education yesterday. We are immensely proud of the work of the staff and students at Telford Park School. We really appreciate the Secretary of State’s engagement with our student council and the positivity and understanding around the school’s journey.”

A growing school, a growing Trust

The visit also provided an opportunity to showcase Telford Park School’s significant expansion project, being delivered in partnership with Paveaways and Telford & Wrekin Council. The development will increase the school’s capacity to 900 students, creating 300 additional places by September 2026.
