Inclusion Team Planning Day

At Amethyst Academies Trust, we believe that every child should be known, valued and supported to succeed. This simple but powerful vision sits at the heart of our Trust Inclusion Strategy and guides every decision we make for our children and young people.

This week, colleagues from across the Trust came together for our Inclusion Team Planning Day to shape the next phase of our inclusive journey. The day focused on our shared ambition to ensure that every school delivers high-quality provision where all children can belong, thrive and achieve, regardless of their starting point, background or additional needs.

Our strategy aligns closely with the Department for Education’s vision for a more inclusive education system and the reforms set out through SEND improvement programmes and the Inclusive Mainstream Fund. The Government’s expectation is clear: mainstream schools should become increasingly inclusive by design, providing timely support, removing barriers to learning and ensuring children receive the help they need at the earliest opportunity.

To support this ambition, our three-year Inclusion Roadmap is built around the Department for Education’s Seven Principles of Inclusion:

  • Ambitious leadership and governance that embeds inclusion.
  • Evidence-based support with a focus on early intervention.
  • High-quality adaptive teaching and a curriculum designed for all learners.
  • Enriching opportunities beyond the classroom.
  • A culture of belonging, participation and attendance.
  • Strong partnerships with families and wider services.
  • Inclusive environments that continue to improve accessibility.

Through this roadmap, we will strengthen inclusive practice across all our schools, develop staff expertise, improve early identification and intervention, enhance partnership working with families and ensure that every child has equitable access to learning and wider opportunities.

Importantly, our approach reflects a fundamental belief that inclusion is school improvement. When children feel they belong, attend regularly, engage positively in learning and receive the support they need, outcomes improve for everyone. Inclusion is not an additional initiative or separate workstream; it is integral to raising standards, removing barriers and creating exceptional schools.

The Planning Day provided an opportunity to review progress, share effective practice and reaffirm our collective commitment to delivering an inclusive education system that truly meets the needs of all learners. As we move forward together, we remain united by a shared purpose: to ensure every child is known, valued and supported to succeed.

Through strong leadership, collaboration and an unwavering commitment to inclusion, we will continue to create schools where every child can flourish and every family can feel part of our community.

Because inclusion is not just what we do – it is who we are.
Inclusion is school improvement.
