Celebrating Our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Students!
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) continues to be a highlight for students across Amethyst Academies Trust, showcasing their determination, teamwork, and resilience. This year, from early April to mid-October, we are proud to report that 26 expeditions have taken place, with 534 students from Years 10, 11, and 13 completing both practice and assessed expeditions. Despite some challenging weather, which has been colder, wetter, and windier than in the past 10 years, our students rose to the occasion and demonstrated remarkable endurance and adaptability.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award isn’t just about expeditions. To complete their award, students also commit to developing skills, engaging in physical activities, volunteering in their communities, and, for our Gold participants, taking part in a residential experience. Each section of the award encourages students to grow personally, build confidence, and learn new life skills that will serve them well into the future.
Completing the DofE requires a special set of qualities. Throughout the program, students must demonstrate:
- Resilience: Pushing through the tough moments, whether that’s on a rain-soaked hike or during a volunteering challenge.
- Leadership and Teamwork: Collaborating with peers, problem-solving in real time, and making sure no one is left behind.
- Self-motivation: Working on their personal development through new skills and physical challenges, often pushing beyond their comfort zones.
- Commitment: Sticking to the goals they’ve set for themselves over months, whether through their physical training, skills development, or hours of volunteering.
These qualities are what the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is all about: building character, perseverance, and the ability to face any challenge with confidence.
Looking ahead, Mr. Grimshaw will be leading assemblies after half term to introduce even more students to the opportunity to join the DofE journey in 2025. This is a fantastic chance for students to gain life-changing experiences, develop lifelong skills, and achieve something truly outstanding.
We are incredibly proud of every student who participated this year and wish them continued success as they complete the remaining sections of their award. Keep an eye out for next year’s program – we can’t wait to see even more students thrive and succeed!
